23 Aug East Grinstead Platform 1 – Feasibility study via access for all funds
We have been advised by EGTC that they have been told by Network Rail that they have received notification from the Department of Transport regarding the level of funding that will be available to Network Rail for the coming control period.
Network Rail (NR) are actively encouraging lobbying to start for nominations for specific locations. We have been advised of the importance for communities and businesses to be on board with this process.
NR believe that Eridge, Lingfield and East Grinstead, all within the Sussex Route, are high priority stations and applications regarding these stations need to be supported to ensure a feasibility study is undertaken.
We are asking a brief letter of support for funding for the feasibility studies from the Access for All fund, from businesses, organised groups, Local authorities and anyone who would agree that the upgrading of the East Grinstead Station to all access for all to platform 1.
Currently the station has full access to platform 2 but platform 1 is accessed only by a pedestrian bridge making access for those with wheelchairs, prams and pushchairs impossible, the alternative is to ask for assistance from a platform guard to carry a person or luggage across the rails. Rush hour trains depart and arrive on platform one as well as the later evening services, often giving rise to distress. Clearly a fully accessible station will bring more passengers to the town and therefore have a knock on affect to business and employment opportunity, therefore we are seeking your support.
Julie Holden, the Town Clerk, has asked if both the EGBA as an organisation could send an official email or an e-letter of support as well as individual businesses to make a strong a case as possible for East Grinstead.
As an individual business please can you email your letter of support to Julie directly [email protected]
