Your personal invitation to our Japan Evening….let us be your guide!

Why Japan?
Because of its history and its isolation from the rest of the world, Japan has a unique culture.Their intricate tea ceremonies, zen gardens and fabulous sumo, fight to grab your attention from the bustling cities and their glass skyscrapers. The grand castles, shrines, temples and the mysterious geisha in Kyoto vie for some time in your itinerary. Now you’ve found the “why” – find the “how” with us – we’ll show you the best of Japan and discuss the “how much” at our Japan Travel Evening on Thursday 16 February 2023 at 6pm. Come in person, or join us on zoom and say…. Konnichiwa!

When to go?
Due to its shape and location, Japan has a vast range of temperatures, so it’s lovely to visit throughout the year. From the powder snow found on the ski slopes in Hokkaido in winter, to the subtropical climate in the southern islands of Okinawa and Ishigaki. There are beautiful pink cherry blossoms in April and scarlet Koyo leaves in October.

Japan is known for its delicious cuisine. Some Japanese specialities include: noodles, sushi and sashimi, tempura, yakitori, kaiseki, donburi, teppanyaki, salads and Japanese curries. Also popular are bento boxes, a selection of different dishes including rice, meat or fish and pickled vegetables. Are you ready to try it?

Getting Around in Japan

A Japan Rail Pass is a wonderful way to travel in Japan – all the trains run better than a Swiss watch! The JR Pass includes the Shinkansen bullet train, and a selection of buses and ferries – especially the ferry to Miyajima Island from Hiroshima. This is where you will see the giant, orange Great Torii Gate (as in our picture at the top of this newsletter).
The trains are thrilling in Japan, but hiring a car is great fun too – do you know they drive on the left? You can explore the more rural parts of Japan that are not accessible by train, and with an English-speaking satnav… how can you go wrong?
Or choose a fully guided group tour – everything arranged for you, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride! Or we can put together an independent itinerary, where you’ll meet guides along the way, have assistance locally and feel like you’ve really got to grips with the country!

Don’t forget – our Japan Travel Evening is on Thursday, 16 February 2023 at 6pm – please let us know you’re coming…or zoom in.
