Norman’s Notes – November 2017

Norman Webster, Town and District Councillor for Mid Sussex and Cabinet Member for Community updates us this month.

Major gas works

Well the good news was that the London Rd works finished a couple of days earlier than scheduled. The bad news is they start again on Monday 8 January in the London Rd/Railway Approach area.

Don’t forget the SGN compensation scheme for local businesses suffering a genuine loss of trade because of the gas work. Packs are available from sgn.co.uk via the Publications section.

Park for £1 all day in Mid Sussex

Remember MSDC is encouraging people to shop locally and support their community by reducing parking to £1 every Saturday in December in specific long stay car parks across Mid Sussex.

As parking on Sundays is already free, it will cost just £1 to park in the Vicarage, Norton House, Franklynn Road, Queens Crescent or Station Road car parks for the whole weekend.

High St Traders Christmas Events

Following on from a highly successful The Big Reveal event don’t forget ‘Twas the Sunday Before Christmas’ event on Sunday 17 December – not quite the Sunday before Christmas this year, but you get the idea …

The Sussex Internship Programme

The University of Sussex is supporting a government programme, which offers businesses access to talented and enthusiastic recent graduates, locally based and with expertise across all disciplines from universities across the UK.

This scheme can provide you with a low-cost contribution to a project or development for your company that will also benefit the graduate with valuable work experience. You can gain from the enthusiasm, new ideas and energy of a recent graduate; promote your organisation as a supportive employer to a network of local graduates; assess without obligation the suitability of a graduate as a prospective future employee; and gain access to the resources and services of the University of Sussex.

If you are interested in this opportunity you will need to act quickly. For more information go to Sussex internships or contact graduate.internships@sussex.ac.uk

New Rates Relief Scheme for Small Businesses

MSDC announced a new Business Rates Relief Fund to provide financial support for small and medium sized businesses that have recently experienced an increase in business rates.
