East Grinstead Town Council

Notes by Town Councillor Rex Whittaker

The Young Enterprise District finals are on Monday 23 March in Horsham – and I will be one of the judges – I am very pleased that both Imberhorne and Sackville schools have entered teams into this year’s competition which involves a group of sixth form students forming an active company, evolving a product/brand, then marketing, selling, recording and reporting on the company success over a seven month period.

The TurnersĀ  Hill Road ‘ Hill Place Farm ‘ site was granted full planning permission before Christmas for 200 homes. As part of this ongoing process I am liaising with Linden Homes before they start construction work as part of their planning conditions clearance. This will hopefully enable positive ongoing two way communications as the project progresses. Work is expected to start in a few months.

The second and final round of public consultation for the MSDC Site Allocation DPD ( Development Plan Document ) is planned to commence on 2 April for a six week period , and this will give people in East Grinstead the opportunity to review and comment on the three potential future housing sites included within this document, with two large ones at Imberhorne Lane and Crawley Down Road. This will be published and publicised in more detail from April with extra councillor drop in surgeries arranged to answer questions and explain in further detail.

Construction works are progressing well on the Lingfield Lodge site opposite Trinity church in London road. This will become a forty eight apartment extra care residential establishment – and one that West Sussex County Council has part invested in through a capital contribution in order to have some rooms allocated specifically for their nominated clients. Works are likely to be completed in April 2021.

The Town council have started the process of reviewing their Neighbourhood Plan which was approved by public referendum in 2016. In the main this will involve bringing the document up to date for planning legislation but also reflecting the MSDC District Plan that was adopted in 2018.

The Town council are also arranging for a big VE Day celebration on Friday 8 May where the main high street will be closed for a street party – and further publicity for this will follow soon.
