Turning the town blue for Dementia Awareness Week 17-23 May

Have you noticed the town is gradually turning blue to mark this important week to raise awareness of dementia?  Businesses along Railway Approach, London Road and the High Street have been asked to turn their windows and displays blue for two weeks starting Monday 17 May.  So a big ‘shout out’ to all those businesses.

A fun town trail (until 30 May) will encourage all ages to take part and spot blue items in shop windows. In addition knitted, crocheted and printed forget-me-nots (the emblem of Dementia Friends) will be displayed around the town, courtesy of the Sackville Lacemakers, East Grinstead Embroiderers, The Soroptimists and individual volunteers.

East Grinstead strives to be a dementia-friendly community and is nationally recognised as such with over 50 members of the Dementia Action Alliance in the town.  But it’s good for us all to be able to recognise the signs of dementia and to find out how we can help those who may have this diagnosis.

More information and a downloadable town trail map are available on the EG Town Council website.
